Most Organizations Ill-Prepared for Inevitable Ransomware Attacks: New Report

Cybersecurity Insiders, BullWall Report, and Webinar Offer Essential Guidance.

The recently published Cybersecurity Insiders 2023 Ransomware Report, a collaborative effort between BullWall and Cybersecurity Insiders, uncovers concerning revelations regarding organizations’ readiness to combat ransomware attacks. Based on a survey of 435 cybersecurity professionals, this report reveals critical gaps and misconceptions that hinder effective security posture, attack prevention, and ransomware remediation.

One key finding is particularly sobering: 79 percent of cybersecurity professionals believe a ransomware attack will likely occur within the next year, a statistic that underscores the importance of enhancing defenses.

The report also shows a significant gap between organizations’ confidence in preventing ransomware attacks and their ability to effectively remediate them. While 76 percent of respondents expressed high confidence in their ability to prevent such attacks, a mere 35 percent were equally confident in their current ability to remediate ransomware after it locks or encrypts data within their systems.

The survey uncovers unrealistic recovery time expectations. While empirical evidence points to recovery periods averaging weeks or even months, a concerning 35 percent of respondents believe they can recover from a ransomware attack in just a few days.

Financial information emerges as the most at-risk data category, with 69 percent of respondents reporting its vulnerability during ransomware incidents. Additionally, customer information (61 percent) and employee information (56 percent) are also identified as high-risk data types. Organizations must prioritize the protection of these critical data assets to prevent severe consequences.

Downtime was cited by 82 percent of respondents as the most significant negative consequence of an attack. Financial losses (75 percent) and reputational damage (68 percent) were also identified as substantial repercussions.

To address these pressing concerns, Cybersecurity Insiders and BullWall will be hosting a webinar titled “Why EDRs And Other Preventative Measures Cannot Stop Ransomware And What To Do Instead” with Holger Schulze, CEO and Founder of Cybersecurity Insiders, and Steve Hahn, EVP of BullWall, on June 15, 2023, at 11:00 am ET.
