Enabling safe, secure, and efficient long-endurance drone operations beyond visual line of sight – in a broad spectrum of industrial and security use cases worldwide.
Hamburg/ Germany, 11/14/2021. The two award-winning start-up companies HHLA Sky and Airial Robotics, both from Hamburg, Germany, announce a partnership: They are ready to integrate their outstanding technologies based on innovative European engineering and professional aviation standards and procedures.
HHLA Sky’s drone control center is a unique IoT platform, securely connecting and controlling unmanned systems. It allows complete management, monitoring, and reporting across all aspects and tasks of 100+ drones beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) – from an integrated control center that can be operated globally. Airial Robotics’ Gyrotrak technology offers one of the most efficient flight time-, speed- and payload-improving hardware solutions for unmanned aircraft vehicles (UAVs).
By fusing an encompassing drone software solution with a unique drone hardware, customers and operators worldwide can benefit in a broad spectrum of use cases, such as: security surveillance tasks at ports, critical infrastructures, borders, oil and gas industry, as well as in search and rescue, ship-to-shore delivery and (intra-)logistics, surveying, inspections, and many more.
“We equip clients across diverse industry verticals with complete solutions to securely manage all aspects related to effective and integrated industrial drone deployments – today and in the future”, says Matthias Gronstedt, one of the CEOs of HHLA Sky. The start-up, a 100 % subsidiary of the Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA), recently won the German Innovation Award 2021 – and is now excited to partner up with another innovative German drone company, allowing both partners to better serve client’s needs.
“Our end-to-end approach goes far beyond planning, scheduling, managing, executing, and monitoring drone missions”, emphasizes Gronstedt. “We really strive to cover all necessary processes and tasks involved – complying with aviation standards and air safety regulations. The integration of our IoT platform with Airial Robotics’ innovative Gyrotrak UAS will open up many new possibilities for both partners”. Lothar Müller, also CEO of HHLA Sky, adds: “The spectrum of use cases for our technologies ranges from industrial settings, critical infrastructures, security organizations as well as complex (intra-)logistic applications and more. All of those are challenging environments, where product safety, reliability and secure IT really make the difference. Both our companies are looking forward to all future possibilities for drone operations, that will be enabled through our partnership.”
Joerg Schamuhn, CEO of Airial Robotics, also sees great potential in the cooperation and complementary technologies: “The implementation of the software from HHLA Sky into our Gyrotrak hardware gives us an extremely attractive overall package, that enables large-scale drone missions of all kinds, adapting to different tasks and requirements. This cooperation allows us as a company to grow faster, offer more complex solutions and open up the door to commercially viable complex drone operations. The result is allowing customers to plan and carry out their missions at any time of day, any place and even under challenging weather conditions.”
Meet representatives from Airial Robotics and HHLA Sky
Airial Robotics’ CEO, Joerg Schamuhn, will be delivering a keynote at the European Drone Forum (EDF) in Cologne (Nov. 15), highlighting details on the technologies and the partnership. HHLA Sky will host the evening’s reception of the EDF. The European Rotors Show and Conference (Nov. 16-18) has Airial Robotics exhibiting the GT20 Gyrotrak in hall K-H8 / C-103, as well as showcasing their new HHLA Sky control center. Both events are held in cooperation with EASA, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency.
HHLA Sky’s Drone Control Center Software is the first end-to-end drone system solution for large-scale industrial and security UAV operations. The system enables 100+ drones to be operated efficiently and simultaneously, beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS), from anywhere in the world. Dedicated drones securely connected with this innovative IoT platform can carry out a wide range of assignments from perimeter security at critical infrastructures (e. g. transmitting real-time video feeds), inspections at airports and industrial sites (e. g. structured and repeatable data collection), to delivery, environmental monitoring, and surveying grounds and buildings. HHLA Sky’s control center solutions can be directly integrated with UTM-systems (by exchanging flight-plans and -authorizations, static and dynamic geo zones, as well as monitoring manned aviation), which results in immense efficiency and safety gains for the operator. The IoT platform also offers already built-in cyber security as well as extensive reporting and auditing features – and also allows for other autonomous vehicles to be connected and controlled. HHLA Sky interfaces with ERP, EAM and other such systems to streamline workflows and realize efficiency gains for the enterprise.
Airial Robotics Gyrotrak Technology is characterized by its high flexibility, long flight times, high payload and outstanding inherent safety. The purely electrically operated, certifiable GT20 Gyrotrak is exceptionally efficient and quiet, can achieve a flight time of over 2 hours and flies at speeds of up to 150 km/h. Gyrotrak UAVs are being designed from the ground up as BVLOS (beyond visual line of sight) machines, capable of flying over densely populated areas applying safety and design standards as known from manned aviation. The Gyrotrak system allows between 4 and 600 kg take-off weight and more and can be flexibly equipped with electronic components and sensors.
About HHLA Sky
Founded in 2018 in Hamburg, Germany, HHLA Sky is a 100 % subsidiary of the Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) – a leading European logistics company, with a long-standing history of well over a century. Together with its clients, the parent company HHLA develops logistics and digital hubs for the transport flows of the future. In doing so, it focuses on innovative technologies and sustainable solutions. The demanding harbor environment in Hamburg was the defining setting for initial concepts of HHLA Sky and aided in continual refinement of its unique drone control center. HHLA Sky is headquartered in Hamburg – and proud winner of the German Innovation Award 2021. More info at www.hhla-sky.de.
